Corduroy is back, ist that great! I’m really quite thrilled as I really like the way it looks, plus it is nice and toasty for winter. (June is winter in the southern hemisphere, just to remind everyone.)

Corduroy combined with the new barrel leg shape sounded like a great idea to me. I used the So Liberated Arthur pattern, completely ignoring the designers fabric recommendations.
The pattern is supposed to be made in linen, or some other softish fabric

Of course with corduroy, all those little gathers at the waist are not going to work. Plus a lot of the volume had to go. I sized two sizes down and took out more volume at the sides and the centre leg seams. The waistband is strip of a matching cotton, because all those layers of corduroy weren’t going to happen. To make the elasticised waist sit as snugly as possible, I made the width a few cm narrower than the widest point of my hips. This still allows me to wriggle into it, but removes as much fabric as possible from bunching at the waist.

My modded version ended up more like the StyleArc Bob pants with centre leg seams and I have lost the exaggerated width at the lower part of the leg, but the pants look good and are very comfy to wear. Shame the corduroy doesn’t photograph all that well, but it’s a mid-whale weight and quite beefy. I have combined it with a short top that accentuates the barrel shape.

hi! As always I really like your project! And love corduroy…🤩Did you dye the top yourself too?
Just a styling tip(sorry, professional tic): guessing that you are not a tall person, I would suggest to make the pants a bit longer. It gives a taller ( and slimmer) appearance. But don’t throw out these very nice pants! In this case you might want to wear dark socks to get the same result.
Hope I didn’t offend you, because I wouldn’t dream of wanting it to!!!
Sweet greetings, Yolanda

No, that’s a great tip, thank you! Not offended at all, just the opposite, I always like to get styling advice. You are absolutely right, I am short. I might try this with ankle boots too which will be the same effect as black socks?
Also, I avoid the dropped crotch in that pattern because I think it will make me look shorter. Is that even correct? And yes, the top is one of mine.

Barrel legs are not my preference but I love, love your sweater. Is it one you have painted?

Yes, it is. Thanks for the nice comment, I do like some dramatic abstract minimalism.

I love what you’ve done with the Arthurs. And love your whole look. That sweater is stunning. and yes, corduroy seems to be having a resurgence which is lovely because it’s so cosy.

I’m still tinkering with the barrel leg look. I have modified the grey pants a little, made them a bit longer and slimmer around the hips, and made another pair in black corduroy. It’s so nice to wear in our winter which has started with some record cold temps.

I love these. I’ve made 3 corduroy pants this winter and have fabric for a fourth. I used the Merchant and Mills Eve trousers modified to have back elastic and somehow they came out trendy barrel leg (?) which I’m loving. They’re about the same length as yours and I wear them with chunky ankle boots. Probably not the most flattering (I’m 155cm) but gosh I love them. So warm and comfy. I’m channeling Oska clothing brand or possibly old man gardening outfit 🤣 Unfortunately I’m not 175cm like Oska models but you can’t have everything!

You’re a woman after my own heart! I channel Oska too and wish I was tall, but never mind. I have already made another pair of corduroys in black and am planning a couple more. I might try to use the SA Bob pattern next and hybridise it with the fabulous Arthur pockets. We’ll see how I go.

Bobs are fabulous. I’ve made a number of them. They are so comfortable, go together quickly and look great. They definitely get a big thumbs up from me.
